In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: where the hell was Batman?
Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, takes up the mantle of taking over Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the baton-signal in the final scene of the season finale, we never got our hands on Robert Pattinson’s costume in The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to get the Penguin’s cigarette smoke in The Batman (2022), but he didn’t succeed.
The DC Studios logo is located in a rainy Gotham alley
In his own series, however, the character is depicted as a casual smoker who prefers cigars. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo.
A direct sequel to the first episode of Matt Reeves’ film
Starring Graham Norton I liked: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). The Batman, and I think those who haven’t seen the last one, are a bit lost. But I watched The Batman a while ago, and this series does an admirable job of quickly picking up where the movie left off without getting bogged down in a didactic recap.
The character may have nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right
It also captures the film’s dark aesthetic and tone well, though the series has many more slyly lighthearted moments than the film. As in The Batman, Colin Farrell does an excellent job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mob “street guy”: rough, profane, volatile, and violent; but also cunning, cunning, and a man who can read. I have my doubts about the series giving The Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if the Penguin’s shenanigans will be enough to sustain a full season.
