Female “empowerment”; takes the form of a story where a much older woman pursues a much younger man.

How far are they going to take this tired old plan? I know old Hollywood was full of older actors being cast opposite younger actors, but the plot of the story had nothing to do with her age. And the older actor targets her because she was younger. It seems like movies are lazy these days, same old older woman/younger man, but the older woman chasing the man is determined and her age is used as some kind of titillating, empowering factor.
To prove to herself that she is still worth it
.Funny though when male characters are cast with much younger actors, they are seen as dirty old men going through a midlife crisis. When an older woman does it, she is seen as “chic”; and “liberated.” As someone else here pointed out, what a hypocrisy and double standard. This story is getting really tiresome, but if they want to keep pushing it, call it what it is. Dirty old woman who wants to empower herself by nabbing a younger man.
In fact, there are many great roles for older actors
I mean, that’s what women have said about men in the same situation. Haven’t we also heard for years that older actors are being “unfairly” cast in so many movies compared to older actors who can still get great roles? Hardly. But why do so many of them get involved with a much younger man?
Let’s see some creativity in storytelling
Surely there are better parts for women that have some substance to them than this same old trope. Let’s look at some storylines that star some of our great, older actors but don’t have another young man involved. We need to see women asserting their skills and offerings as successful women. Not just their attempts to assert themselves with younger men.
